Licensure Pathway

Interested in an Additional License in Teaching ESL K-12?

In collaboration with the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB), Project MOMENTUM is working to develop a series of micro-credentials that are aligned to K-12 ESL Standards in the State of Minnesota. Once approved, this pathway will be intended for teachers with a current teaching license who are interested in adding an ESL license to their credentials.

Course Information

The Additional Licensure Pathway will require completion of the following Project MOMENTUM micro-credential courses:

Eligibility

Any teacher with a current Minnesota Teaching License is eligible to apply to the Additional Licensure Pathway Program. Interested candidates will need to submit a current resume, transcript(s), teaching license, and a statement of support from their Administrator.

Licensure Requirements

In addition to completing the required micro-credential courses, candidates will also need to complete state licensure exams (MTLEs) and fulfill state requirements regarding practicum experiences and student teaching. For additional information about state requirements, please refer to Minnesota Statute 8705.1010 Subp. 3 and 4 or Contact Us for a personalized consultation.

Enrollment

We are currently working with the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) to secure program approval. Please Contact Us to be added to the waitlist. Waitlist candidates will be notified as soon as program approval is in place.

We recognize the disproportionalities in teacher representation in Minnesota, and we encourage bilingual teachers, teachers of color and Indigenous educators to apply. The Project MOMENTUM K-12 Additional License Program does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, disability, or age. We will provide reasonable accommodations to applicants who need them for medical or religious reasons, as required by law.

Cost

The cost of the additional licensure pathway is being fully funded by a National Professional Development grant from the U.S. Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition through Spring 2027.  Candidates who enroll by Fall 2026 will have program fees fully covered by the Southeast Service Cooperative.
